Corey Haim 1971-2010
73
If you were a child of the 80s or even a fan of the films of that great decade, you had to have been affected by the news of the Death of Corey Haim on Wednesday, March 10, 2010. I know it's a cliche they use when some celebrity dies that they were on the verge of a comeback but I have been looking forward to seeing him get back on the screen after his small role in Crank 2. It was very sad to turn on the computer that morning and see "Lost Boys star found dead at 38" with a recent photo of Haim alongside the caption.
Ever since joining Hubpages, I wanted to write a hub about how The Two Coreys, Feldman & Haim. changed my life... About how I am forever in their debt even though I never met either of them. You see, when I was entering my teenage years by the late 80s (Yeah, I'm that old), I found that a great way to talk to girls was to ask them "Do you like the Coreys?" or "Who's your favorite Corey?", something along those lines. I was by no means a ladies man but I did alright. It helped that unlike todays Robert Pattinson & Taylor Lautner from the Twilight Sagas, Their output were cinematic classics that guys could enjoy.
My prayers go out to the family and friends that did know him, especially his Mother, who was already going through a struggle with cancer, one can only imagine what it must be like to lose her son.
Rest In Peace, Corey Haim 1971-2010.
THE LOST BOYS (1987)
By the late 80s, Wham had broken up, Hall & Oates had started winding things down a bit, The world was ready for another duo. Thank God for Joel Schumacher, who I will forgive for Batman & Robin only because he had the foresight to put the Coreys, Feldman & Haim together. Here's The trailer.
Stephen King's Silver Bullet (1985)
Horror Classic? Not in the least, however, I feel his performance in this film has been overlooked in the media coverage of the last few days. He was very believable in his role of a handicapped boy in a small town besieged by Werewolf attacks. Here is the trailer of which he is only in at about the 1:05 mark.
DREAM A LITTLE DREAM (1989)
my personal favorite of the Coreys team-up. Everything about this film is so right. Funny, dramatic, Beautiful, touching story. There is a Dream A Little Dream 2 that does not have much in the way of the dramatic, beautiful, or touching but it still has it's moments if you have the right mindframe going in.
Prayer Of The Rollerboys (1990)
Definitely a guilty pleasure of mine. Please do not go through life without at least seeing this once.

About 2 years ago, I bought a Realistic LAB-340 Turntable at a Goodwill. My research on it indicates Radio Shack sold this in the late 70s. Since then, Record Collecting has become a nice hobby for me....

Beautiful "tribute"....I wrote a hub called "Lost Boy" and put a pic up of him, but he was just one of the one's that I knew a long time ago......sad really.....the entertainment industry is very difficult.....Best, G
he will be missed.
This was beautiful, I can tell you are a very passionate person for writing this.
license to drive is still funny today. rip haimster
you're right! chicks did dig the coreys
LOL@Wham 'n' Hall & Oates
no argument there.
Beautiful, sweet and funny. RIP COREY :(
What did you think of Fast Getaway 1 and 2?
bat115,
I agree this was a tragedy, but it's one we've seen played out way too often!!!!!!!!! Some folks just can't take being a celebrity. I loved Corey in "Lucas".
I can tell you're a true Coreys afficionado. In my day, it was David & Shaun Cassidy if you wanted to impress the ladies.
Roller Boys was so bad that I can not help to watch it over and over again.
Reading your hub made me think about my tweens. The two Coreys, John Hughes, Michael Jackson passing away made me really think of that 80s era. I always kind of thought high school would be so interesting because of the movies and music and getting to be older would be cool. I kinda feel that I missed out.
Hey, I went through a few of the Corey Haim hubs, and decided to hook your hub up to mine, about celebrity deaths. You have an informative hub. I liked that you wrote about a few of his movies.
Love the Coreys Flicks butttt Rollerboys sucked!
Sad to see his career & life flushed down the toilet. He did have some talent.
Happy 40th to the Haimster-
The truth is out there
