Memorex 3 CD Turntable AM/FM Cassette Stereo Review
By bat115
I have heard horror stories about the blank media (DVD-R/DVD-RW,CD-R/CD-RW, Audio Cassette, Video Tapes) that Memorex produced. I prefer TDK or Verbatim but have used their media and never had a bad experience. I saw their 4-in-1 Bookshelf Stereo Model # 9299M in a catalog and thought it would be perfect for the office.
Let's break down the features in the order they broke down, shall we?
VOLUME: This was the first sign something was not right with the system, after unboxing and setting it up. I tried the radio, scanned through the FM/AM stations. The volume scale goes to 0 to 40 and I had to put
it on 25 just to get a decent sound. At first thought the stereo just had bad reception no matter how I fumbled with the Antenna Wires until I tried out the...
CD: This comes with a 3-Disc changer and like before, the volume had to be at 25. I then realized this was a 17 watt system but anyways... I played CD's about twice a day on this for about 2 weeks when all of a sudden each of the 3 disc trays wouldn't read them anymore.
DUAL DECK CASSETTE: I used to make mixtapes and was waxing nostalgic revisiting those that were collecting dust in my closet since the 90s. after listening to 2 of them one night on the left hand deck, I put in a 3rd... I am glad it was a tape I didn't care for since it was promptly eaten by the machine. The right side deck made it through 4 plays before it got the tape munchies.
and finally The...
TURNTABLE: if you have followed me or ready one of my previous hubs, you know what a vinyl lover I am. I was happy at the notion of taking some lp's to the office to tick away the moments that make up a dull day, as "Pink Floyd" sang in "Time". I was only into my 6th use of this feature when the tonearm just snapped off at the base.
it is my opinion that one should stay away from this stereo.

If you were a child of the 80s or even a fan of the films of that great decade, you had to have been affected by the news of the Death of Corey Haim on Wednesday, March 10, 2010. I know it's a cliche they use... - Gene Autry Sings Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer - LP...
About 2 years ago, I bought a Realistic LAB-340 Turntable at a Goodwill. My research on it indicates Radio Shack sold this in the late 70s. Since then, Record Collecting has become a nice hobby for me.... - Annette Funicello - The Best Of Annette Vinyl LP Rev...
I grew up a child of the eighties yet I sometimes felt that I was born in the wrong time, mostly when it came to my choice of music, movies & TV shows. but those will be hubs at later times. For now, I want...

I am considering this item, we are now at November, 2010, and need to know if the Memorex unit is healed, Batt115, or if anyone else has positives or negatives.
Pls?
DIANA: I have similar experience as above, with the addition of inability to "power up" the entire system. CD turntable will not open (lasted about a month); then, despite the "standby" light illuminating, I cannot activate the system with either the "on" pushbutton or the remote (lasted a little longer...about 3 months). My system is about two years old, so I can't speak to any improvements that might have been made.
